I first saw this performance on DIRECT TV channel 101 -- I have always been a SIMPLY RED fan but this performance blew me away. When I found a DVD of this live performance of many of the group's (what I consider) most loved songs I didn't hesitate to buy it -- I probably should buy at least two more as I play this DVD almost every day and I'd like one for my car so I can listen while a drive. ALTHOUGH lead singer (and undoubtedly the band's musical inspiration) Mick Hucknall seems to be the star -- the musicians behind him are unbelieveable!! YOU may think I am giving this TOO MUCH hype -- but believe me -- once you LISTENED to this performance, then WATCHED it, you will understand and feel just like me.

Simplified

It's not easy to strip a song down, leaving only what's needed to make a great tune sound even better. Great guitar, sax, and a little background female vocals sets up a wonderful and magical musical moment with Mick Hucknall. What a voice! Nothing simple about it. The arrangements are so good on every song. I love the latin flavor brought to some of the songs. Holding Back the Years is stripped to the basics, and that VOICE! I was in London in May of '86, on Holiday/Vacation, traveling on my own.

Talk about the word "fun"! If you could use that anywhere, it is here! BB performs "duets" with everyone from Van Morrison, Tracy Chapman, Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, The Stones, Joe Cocker, Willie Nelson, and a few others. BUT! THE MOST FUN ONE OF ALL, THAT MY SON AND I BOTH LOVED, WAS WITH THE RAPPER "HEAVY D"! They perform a rap/rock duet, where "Heavy D", talks about making a "move" on BB's sweetheart "Lucille"! I'm sure anyone reading this review knows who that fine lady is! This CD is a definite "buy" and can be enjoyed by all ages, and musical tastes!
