The 10th Kingdom

The 10th Kingdom is the latest in a handful of sorcery-themed miniseries that were broadcast during the mid-nineties. I caught this series when it first aired (I was 15 years old?? Geez...), by which time NBC had aired quite a few of these things, beginning with Gulliver's Travels (1996) and Merlin ('98), followed by the dismal Noah's Ark ('99). Probably the worst one was Hallmark's The Magical Legend of the Leprechauns ('99) with Randy Quaid...but let's not dwell on it.

Virginia Lewis (Kimberly Williams), along with her dopey dad Tony (John Larroquette), travels into a portal which connects New York's Central Park with the "Nine Kingdoms".

Love the storyline and all the characters. Matthew Broderick and Rutger Hauer are my favorite actors. I wish it would come out in Blu-Ray. It's a must have in any collection.

SIN CITY is one of those miraculous movies that seems to come along every once in a while. Filled w/ violence, gore, insanity and murder, this is the hideous underbelly of hell on earth! Robert Rodriguez / Frank Miller have fashioned the perfect comic book on film. The overblown characters and impossible action take place in the netherworld of their combined imaginations, leaving us w/ a masterwork of incredible, explosive entertainment. Every evil person is a nightmarish ghoul or demon, embodied so well by the silent, stealthy, cannibalistic Kevin (Elija Wood).

Blade Runner (The Director's Cut)

I first saw this movie on VHS in 1982 and was totally blown away with such a daring futuristic movie, for me the voice over of Harrison Ford told the underlining story, it was very important in my opinion. Without his comentary how the heck would you know about ("gutter talk a mish mash of english spanish german what have you?") Deckard explains this, other wise how could he be a blade runner and not know the city speak? In the directors cut you have no idea what the heck is going on, as friends virgin veiwers I have tested this with close friends, all prefer the original version! Need I say more Ridley? Ok the trees at the very end are a bit lame but without the commentary the film is lost on so many people in my humble opinion.
